Our, Óir, Ore at the Hunt Museum: 3rd-6th Class

Step into Limerick’s past through a journey shaped by silver and gold. Our, Oir, Ore brings history to life, exploring key periods such as the Bronze Age, Early Christianity, Medieval Ireland, the Vikings and Georgian era ,and reveals how precious metals influenced society. Through interactive activities, pupils discover how our shared history is reflected in “óir” (gold) and “ore, ” the materials that shaped Limerick’s heritage.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the properties of metals (strength, flexibility, durability)
- Explore Limerick’s history and the role of metalwork in its development
- Learn how silver and gold reflect culture, trade, and craftsmanship
Workshop Activities:
- Create an embossed Gorget using paper craft
- Use digital interactives to explore artefacts in detail.
