Children of Men directed by Alfonso Cuarón - A Film for the Comparative 2028.
This webinar is aimed at teachers of Senior Cycle English who are using the film Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuarón, in the Comparative Section of the Leaving Certificate Higher Level English course.

The webinar will explore how a selection of learning outcomes can be brought to life through a range of learning experiences as students engage with Children of Men. The webinar will illustrate how learning experiences can deepen and consolidate learning through key moments in the film, while also making links and connections to other texts studied as part of the Comparative course. We will share approaches that support students in developing their understanding of film as a text, while engaging with the prescribed modes of Literary Genre and Cultural Context. Teachers will gain insight into how students can build the analytical, comparative and critical thinking skills required to respond confidently to the Comparative Study in the Leaving Certificate examination.

Facilitator Bio:
Ann Marie Garvey has over twenty years teaching experience and works in Coláiste Cholmcille, Ballyshannon. She was seconded for three years as an English Advisor with Junior Cycle for Teachers. She has been an Advising Examiner of Leaving Cert Higher Level English for many years and remains an English Associate with Oide.

Elaine McGowan has over twenty years teaching experience and is currently a teacher of English and History and Year Head in St. Attracta's Community School, Co. Sligo. She was an Examiner for both Junior and Leaving Cert. Higher Level English. Elaine returned to her classroom after a four year secondment to Junior Cycle for Teachers as an English Advisor.
