The purpose of this information session is to provide comprehensive information on the organisation and process for the deployment of special education teaching resources following the new circular 0064/2024.
Target audience: SET and mainstream class teachers of pupils with SEN
Learning outcomes:
Participants will have an in-depth understanding of:
- the principles underpinning the special education teaching model.
- the roles and responsibilities of school management and staff.
- the problem-solving process for identification of need, planning, intervention and review of response to intervention.
Presenter bio:
Carmel Ann Harrington is a very dedicated, committed primary teacher, with a strong passion for inclusive special education, having just completed the Post Graduate Diploma in that area in Mary Immaculate Collage with first-class honours. As an Assistant Principal and assistant Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in her school, she plays a key leadership role in promoting Universal Design for Learning and in ensuring that every student reaches their full potential. She is currently seconded to the NCSE as an Inclusion Advisor which involves supporting schools to develop their capacity on such inclusion.
