Care Aware Crew

The Care Aware Crew - for Primary

The Care Aware Crew is an educational programme that has been co-developed with pupils and teachers to support health promotion, leadership and raise awareness around careers in healthcare. It has been piloted in over 20 schools in the Midwest with over 1,000 pupils participating to date. It is designed to support 3rd and 4th class pupils in their SPHE curriculum through a series of interactive videos and workbooks on health topics including making a 999 call, first aid, healthy heart, brilliant brain and others.
The programme is the result of a partnership project between University of Limerick, the Health Service Executive Midwest and Limerick & Clare Education and Training Board, delivered by the Junior Health Sciences Academy. Feedback from pupils, teachers and principals in the participating pilot schools has been overwhelmingly positive with demonstrated learning outcomes, high engagement and ready-to-go resources.
Some of the key features of the Care Aware Crew programme are:
• Aligned with the SPHE curriculum
• Ready-made child friendly and animated videos and workbooks
• Free of charge
• Flexible package for teachers to choose from
• Video content created and delivered by healthcare professionals
• Co-designed with pupils, teachers, healthcare professionals and academics
• Robust evaluation demonstrating its impact
• Delivered in 20-30mins over a 4-6 week period
