Computer Science Week 2022

Ireland’s first-ever Computer Science Week will take place from 8-15 October. The week’s events will focus attention on the opportunities of Computer Science for students, and the exciting developments in classrooms and in industry-collaborations around Ireland.

Organised by the Department of Education’s Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST), the event  will shine a light on Computer Science Education in Ireland, providing students with opportunities to ‘taste’ the subject, and providing information to students, teachers, guidance counsellors and parents. The full programme of events for Computer Science Week 2022 will be promoted in the coming weeks through the @PDSTcs twitter account using the #csweek hashtag.

A national conference to mark Computer Science Week will take place on 13 October in the Athlone Springs Hotel. The event will be opened remotely by Minister for Education Norma Foley TD and will comprise a keynote address delivered by Lorraine Underwood (maker, author and senior teaching associate at Lancaster University), student workshops, exhibitions from industry, and primary and post-primary schools.

The conference, which is suitable for school leaders, teachers, guidance counsellors, parents, industry representatives and all education stakeholders, will see the launch of:

  • A new dedicated website for Computer Science for students, parents, schools and buddies
  • A new online Buddy System, connecting teachers and schools with 'buddies' from industry, from other schools and higher and further education.

The conference is now open for booking. The cost is free, lunch is provided and all are welcome to attend but places are limited so early booking is advised.
