Linking literacy and learning: Cross-curricular approaches in senior classes
This course will explore the development of thinking, speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in the senior primary school. In particular, the course will emphasise how literacy can be linked with other curriculum subjects, including history, science and visual art. A range of practical strategies and resources for developing cross-curricular literacy will be explored, including high quality children’s books and online sources. Frameworks for developing project work in different disciplines will be tried out and evaluated, alongside considerations for teaching and planning with the Primary Language Curriculum in senior classes. The course will also help teachers to consider how children with language and literacy difficulties can be accommodated within cross-curricular literacy work.
