Reflection as Prevention. Protecting Yourself from Burnout Before You Reach Breaking Point

Burnout rarely arrives all at once. More often, it develops through small patterns: carrying too much, ignoring what we need, feeling constantly overstimulated, postponing decisions, and losing touch with what is actually ours to manage.

This reflective webinar explores how intentional reflection can become a practical form of burnout prevention. Participants will consider questions such as Why haven’t I started yet?, What is actually mine to carry? and What might my restlessness be trying to tell me?

The session will explore the power of a curious rather than critical mind, recognising when what looks like lack of motivation may actually be overstimulation or emotional overload, and gently meeting the parts of ourselves we may have been avoiding. We will also examine how everyday choices shape wellbeing - because often it is not one dramatic decision that changes our life, but the accumulation of small decisions, boundaries and acts of micro-courage.

Rather than reflection becoming another task to complete, participants will learn how to use it as a pause: a way to notice, question, recalibrate and intentionally decide what to carry forward - and what to put down.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognise early signs of emotional overload and burnout, including overstimulation, restlessness, procrastination and apparent loss of motivation.
  2. Use reflective questioning to distinguish between what is theirs to carry and what can be released, shared, delegated or left with others.
  3. Develop a more curious and compassionate inner dialogue, exploring avoided emotions, needs and patterns without immediately judging or trying to fix them.
  4. Identify small, realistic decisions and acts of micro-courage that can strengthen boundaries, restore a sense of agency and gradually create a more sustainable working and personal life.
