Eochair – The key to happy, active and inclusive learning.

This summer course introduces primary school teachers to the Eochair programme. Child-centred and teacher-friendly, the Eochair programme offers a toolkit of innovative and engaging instructional tactics, strategies and skills that facilitate integrated learning, teaching and assessment as outlined in the new Primary Curriculum Framework. 

Eochair was designed for primary schools in Ireland based on the principles of the Instructional Leadership Programme (ILP) developed by Prof. Barrie Bennett, Professor Emeritus of the Ontario Institute for Studies at the University of Toronto. Prof. Bennett has worked in collaboration with the ETBI over the past 16 years to successfully promote ILP  in the post-primary sector across Ireland.

In March 2024 Prof. Barrie Bennett launched Eochair in Limerick Education Support Centre. He will contribute to the summer course by live video link.

Teachers will return to the classroom in September with a bank of free teaching resources and a toolkit of powerful new strategies that will enable them to deliver the new Primary Curriculum Framework.

Tutors: Sandra Larkin & Linda O’Meara

Linda O’Meara has worked as a primary school teacher in Milford NS in Castletroy, since 2009. She enjoys engaging in continuous professional development and completed the pilot programme for primary school teachers in Instructional Leadership in 2019. Since then, she has incorporated the IL tactics and strategies into her teaching to create a classroom where her 6th class pupils are highly engaged in their own learning. Linda completed the Postgraduate Diploma in School Leadership, in the University of Limerick, in 2018 and the Masters in School Leadership in 2020.

Laois woman Sandra has taught at Milford NS in Castletroy since 2001. In 2019, she completed the pilot programme for Instructional Leadership for primary teachers and uses the methodologies regularly with her third class. She has completed the Post Graduate Diploma in School Leadership and has experience of other learning environments from volunteer work placements in India, the Philippines and Swaziland.

• The course fee is not transferable to another teacher.

In the event that this course does not reach the minimum number of participants, the Centre will be obliged to cancel the course. You may be offered a place on another course or given a refund.
