Getting Started with Online and Offline Resources for EU Code Week For Junior and Middle Classes

This two hour workshop explores how coding can be introduced into the classroom and used across the curriculum. Participants will engage with various online and offline resources. that can be used to introduce pupils to the concept of coding and computational thinking. This course does not require any prior knowledge or experience of coding in order to participateand is suitable for those with or without access to devices or connectivity.

Facilitator: Martin Pierce

Martin is a qualified primary school teacher, with a Masters in Education, with 15 years of classroom and SET experience. He has an AP2 post with particular responsibility in leading learning and teaching in Digital Technologies in his school. He has recently completed a project with the Department of Education and the PDST TIE for the past 4 years, acting as lead cluster co-ordinator on behalf of 8 schools, to enhance children’s curiosity and skills in STEM subjects through the stimulus of WeDo 2.0/ Mindstorms EV3 construction and robotics set and ease their transition through primary and into post-primary education. He has facilitated a Digital Technologies course for the Clare Education Centre this past summer. Currently, he is engaging with the Post Graduate Diploma in School Leadership in UL and has a keen interest in coaching and mentoring.
