Getting Started with Lego WeDo for EU Code Week for Middle and Senior Classes
This two hour workshop explores how teachers can get involved in EU Code week with a particular focus on activities that do not require a device - unplugged activities. Teachers will be provided with practical activities and resources to make the best use of Lego WeDo in middle and senior classes. This course does not require any prior knowledge or experienceof coding in order to participate.
Facilitator:Martin Pierce
Martin is a qualified primary school teacher, with a Masters in Education, with 15 years of classroom and SET experience. He has an AP2 post with particular responsibility in leading learning and teaching in Digital Technologies in his school. He has recently completed a project with the Department of Education and the PDST TIE for the past 4 years, acting as lead cluster co-ordinator on behalf of 8 schools, to enhance children’s curiosity and skills in STEM subjects through the stimulus of WeDo 2.0/ Mindstorms EV3 construction and robotics set and ease their transition through primary and into post-primary education. He has facilitated a Digital Technologies course for the Clare Education Centre this past summer. Currently, he is engaging with the Post Graduate Diploma in School Leadership in UL and has a keen interest in coaching and mentoring.
