Learning Through Play for Infant Teachers

This support group aims to connect teachers who are new to the teaching of the Infant classes in embedding playful learning across the curriculum. 

The focus areas of each particular session will incorporate the following but participants will be asked for their input in determining the focus of the following session.

  • Planning for play
  • Teacher led and child led play
  • Language play
  • Physical, creative and pretend play
  • Assessment

Facilitators: Sarah Keane / Róisín McGovern

Róisín McGovern is a primary school teacher with over ten years teaching experience, much of which is in the Infant classroom. She has engaged in further professional development around the area of Play and believes in the value of playful learning experiences across the curriculum. Róisín has worked as an Advisor with the PDST.

Sarah Keane has been teaching for over 15 years and is passionate about the benefits of learning through play. Sarah is an Aistear tutor and has facilitated Aistear workshops and summer courses in Limerick Education Centre. Sarah has also designed and facilitated an online summer course on learning through play. Sarah has been working as an Advisor with the PDST since 2015.
