LEC SNA Summer School - Art Therapy - Helena Gleeson (tutor)
This four hour workshop aims to:
· introduce SNAs to the application and role of art therapy with SEN children in an educational setting.
· Give an understanding of the function of the on-going coping mechanisms used by children who have sensory/physical/emotional/intellectual/mental difficulties which restrict their capacity to benefit from education
· Promote a greater awareness of the importance, the role and the potential of creativity and art to enhance learning and improve peer relationships in the classroom.
· Provide the SNA with a greater awareness and respect for their own individual relationships to art/creativity and how this new awareness may promote empathy and greater understanding of the difficulties that SEN children struggle with each day.
· Enhance self-care of SNA
The workshop will include a power-point presentation, reflective journaling, experiential art-work with a variety of materials and an optional sharing of experiences. All art materials provided. Please bring your own Journal.
