Mindfulness and Wellbeing for Schools, Principals and Teachers

 

Background:

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected countries, communities and people globally in unprecedented and unexpected ways.  Now we are faced with the next challenge of living alongside the COVID-19 virus, while continuing education, economic and social activities. This will require additional awareness, innovation, teamwork and problem solving - all on top of the normal challenges of running a busy school, achieving excellence in educational standards and dealing with the needs of students, parents and staff.

We can consistently run / contribute to a strong and thriving team and school - if we ourselves are thriving. Overworking, burnout and exhaustion does not pave the way for sustainable learning and growth. It undermines it. When people are burned out, potential and output is eroded. In these times of unprecedented challenge, change and uncertainty, more than ever we need to prioritize wellbeing, take good care of ourselves and recharge our batteries in our down time so we can consistently be at our best at work and in our lives.

This wellbeing and mindfulness programme for teachers, special needs assistants and principals will give attendees a blueprint of how to navigate the current context and related challenges from a mental and emotional wellbeing perspective so they can be and do their best. Participants will learn a range of relaxation and mindfulness practices and many practical insights for how to develop and sustain a more hopeful, positive and productive mindset.

The programme will involve 5 sessions (1.5 hours per session) with the following themes -

Week 1.               Combating Burnout:

Week 2.               Building Resilience in Challenging Times

Week 3.               Relaxation and Restorative Sleep

Week 4.               Effectively managing Stress

Week 5.               Creating a Culture of wellbeing in your school

Dates for the additional session are - 11, 18, 25 November & 3 December 

The sessions will cover:

·         What is wellbeing? And what wellbeing means to me? My class and my school

·         The growth and burnout equations

·         How to avoid burnout.

·         Insights and practices to help you effectively manage stress and relax

                How to prepare for restorative sleep

                The 3 types of stress and solutions

                Mindfulness and Meditation

                Focus, Happiness and Productivity

·         Dealing with Emotional Contagion

·         Communications in Challenging Times

                The opportunity to rebuild our lives back in a better way

                How to create a wellbeing culture in your school

·         Personal Self-care action plan

                Insights for Classroom / School wellbeing action plan

About Calodagh:  Calodagh McCumiskey is an accredited thought leader in Wellbeing. She has been practicing meditation and mindfulness daily for over 12 years and teaching for 9.
