Using video in the classroom - How using video can be a powerful tool for both teacher and student in the classroom - 9 May 2017



The Limerick education centre is proud to be the Apple regional training Centre RTC in the midwest.

From March 2015, LEC will be offering a range of courses and workshops for local teachers and education stuff, All free. These will be focused on enhancing and transforming teaching and learning with Apple technology, including iPad, MacBook and iMac.

LEC has a close working relationship with several schools, primary and postprimary were highly successful one-to-one iPad schemes for pupils exist. LEC also has a number of Apple distinguished educator is, Apple professional development consultants and PDS T trained tutors associated with the Centre.

About our RTC

The regional training Centre programme was born in the UK in 2005 to to provide teachers with training, expertise and access to best practice to support the use of Apple technology in the classroom. The program brings together a wide community of experience educators and experts to provide free and easy access to Apple's creative learning technologies through local learning hubs.

Every RTC has unique skills, a different curriculum subject focus but that share the same objectives:

  • To provide a focus on pedagogy for sharing best practice and gaining skills
  • To introduce planned effective digital solutions to school using Mac and iPod
  • To train teachers to use Apple tools and help unable active and transformative teaching within the classroom
  • To support and enhance and transform teaching and learning outcomes

The RTC program is a community program and as such the ethos is about sharing each other's learning experiences and knowledge between peers. The RTC’s in the UK are learning hubs within local regions, promoting collaboration and the sharing of resources and practices

RTC support

Apple is committed to supporting every regional training centre. The RTC community will have access to bespoke training and expertise. This includes Apple distinguished educators, Apple professional development. RTC’s can also discuss training opportunities with our local Apple education team consultant or their local Apple solutions expert.

All regional training centres will be invited to attend a two-day conference that takes place twice a year. The conference is an opportunity to share best practice, focusing on collaboration and exciting hands-on workshops.

All our RTC's will also be granted access to the RTC community membership site. The site contains regularly updated free resource, media, communications, guidance and peer-to-peer access

1. The Power of Music! - Primary Schools - 28 September 2016

A two hour workshop for delegates from any phase, focusing on developing their use of key

Apple music/sound apps including: GarageBand, MadPad and ClappingMusic among many

others with a particular focus on how you can help you utilise the power of the iPad in their

classes. The emphasis is on getting the most value out of your investment in Apple tools. 

The session will be led by Stephen McFarlane (Apple Distinguished Educators).

2. Improving your productivity with Apple apps and tools - 4 October 2016

A two hour, evening workshop for delegates from any phase, focusing on developing their use of

key Apple productivity apps and tools, including: Keynote, Pages, Numbers. We will also look at

how to utilise Google Drive and some associated web tools. The emphasis is on getting the most

value out of your investment in Apple tools. 

The session will be led by Thomas Creighton (Apple Professional Development Consultant)

3. iTunes U - Beginners - date TBC

A two hour workshop focusing on providing teachers with the knowledge and tools to create

iTunes U courses with a customised learning experience. Teachers will learn about the potential of

iTunesU, its application and be shown how to create their course from the iTunes U app on iPad. 

The session will be led by Kevin O’ Reilly (Apple Professional Development Trainer).

4. iTunes U - Advanced - date TBC

A follow-on two hour workshop focusing on providing teachers with the knowledge and tools to

create iTunes U courses with a customised learning experience. Teachers will be shown how to

manage their course from the iTunes U app on iPad and also how to collaborate on course

creation within subject departments. 

The session will be led by Kevin O’ Reilly (Apple Professional Development Trainer).

5. iPad & SEN - 9 November

A two hour workshop for teachers showing how the iPad can enrich the learning experience of all

pupils with SEN. The session will showcase some popular apps for the iPad. The session will also

outline the unrivalled features and functions of Apple technology for SEN learner.

The session will be led by Cormac Cahill (Apple Distinguished Educator & Apple Education

Trainer)

6. Early Reading Skills Development - 22 November 2016 (changed from 10 November)

A two hour workshop which uses challenge based learning to develop early reading skills in

students. Participants will be introduced to apps and approaches to help pupils develop their

reading skills.

The session will be led by Catherine Mangan (Apple Distinguished Educator & Member of the

ADE Board for EMEIA).

7. Managing Assessment & Teacher/Pupil Workflows on iPad - 14 November 2016

A two hour workshop focusing on assigning, collecting and reviewing student work with iPad.

The emphasis will be on distributing assignments, instructions and resources to students using

iPad and iTunes U as well as collecting, reviewing and marking student work.

 

The session will be led by ADE Deborah Ní Cheallaigh (Apple Distinguished Educator)

8. 1:1 iPad Best Practice for school leaders​ - 17 November 2016

This is an opportunity for leaders/e-learning coordinators from any sector to learn about all

aspects of a successful 1:1 iPad programme, with time to reflect upon and develop their own

vision & implementation plan.

Delegates will have the chance to talk to key staff involved in a successful pilot and 1:1

implementation at the school, including senior staff, teachers and students. The day will cover:

• Planning a 1:1 deployment, key areas to

focus on for realising your vision

• The Apple ecosystem

• Wifi

• Staff engagement & essential CPD

• Measuring impact

• Sustainability & cost-savings

9. Transforming Maths Teaching & Learning with Technology - 23 January 2017

A two hour workshop focusing on teaching Maths to students working with iPad. The emphasis

will be on teaching and learning, collecting, reviewing and marking student learning using iPad.

10. Everyone Can Make Music on iPad! - Post-Primary Schools - 25 January 2017

A two hour, evening workshop for delegates from any phase, focusing on developing their use of

key Apple music/sound apps including: GarageBand, Voice Recorder Pro, Tenuto among many

others with a particular focus on how you can help your 6th Year Music students can utilise the

power of the iPad in their exams. The emphasis is on getting the most value out of your

investment in Apple tools.

11. Creating interactive iBooks using iBooks Author - 4 April 2017

A two hour workshop focusing on developing an iBook for use on the iPad. Participants will use

the free application iBooks Author using a MacBook Pro to create an interactive book which will

include galleries, video, interactive diagrams, 3D objects, quizes and more. Apps on the iPad will

also be used to create content for the iBook.

The session will be led by Ciara Ní Dhrisceoil (Apple Professional Development Trainer & Apple

Distinguished Educator).

Please note that participants will require a Macbook.

12. Using video in the classroom - How using video can be a powerful tool for both teacher and student in the classroom - 9 May 2017

A two hour, evening workshop showcasing ideas for using video in the classroom using iMovie on

iPad/Mac. This session will showcase examples of using video across a multitude of subjects as

well as showing the technical skills of editing a video to use in the classroom.

The session will be led by Ciara Ní Dhrisceoil (Apple Distinguished Educator).
